Our New Look!

Welcome to The Family Village.  If you are a frequent visitor to our web site, you probably noticed the addition and redesign of several of the buildings in our village.  We expanded the Family Village web site to better meet the needs of our visitors.  The changes we made include:

NEW BUILDINGS:

We added a "legal center" in order to better organize the many resources related to disability-related legislation and civil rights for people with disabilities.  We've included general information on legal topics such as estate planning and advocacy organizations.  And, we've included information on specific legislation such as the ADA, IDEA, FERPA, and more.  Visit the Family Village Law Office here:
www.familyvillage.wisc.edu/legal/

Another new building is the Disability Culture Center.  When you visit this building in The Family Village, you will find links to resources ranging from disability studies to the history of the disability rights movement, from people with disabilities in film and television to self-advocacy and self-determination.  We've found hundreds of fascinating and informative web sites for you to explore.  Visit the Family Village Culture Center here:  www.familyvillage.wisc.edu/culture/

There are hundreds of web sites devoted to helping individuals and families cope and thrive when disability is part of their life.  The Living with Disability Center was created to capture and organize the diverse array of information aimed at making life easier.  The House of Worship was incorporated into the Living with Disability Center. Other topics of interest include siblings issues, respite care, service dogs and more.  Visit the Living with Disability Center here:  www.familyvillage.wisc.edu/living/

REMODELED BUILDINGS:

The former Community Center has been converted to the Family Resources Center to better describe the types of information visitors will find there.  The focus is on family issuesadoption, foster care, child care, grandparents, resources for military families, and cultural-specific information links.  Visit the Family Resources Center here: www.familyvillage.wisc.edu/familyresources/

Our University Building is now our Research Center.  Much of the information is the same, but it's new moniker will clearly describe the kind of resources visitors will find in the Family Village Resource Center.  We've developed helpful information on how families can learn about research related to their child's disability.  Visit the Research Center here: www.familyvillage.wisc.edu/university/
